Geological Consulting has supported Stantec on several New Zealand dam safety projects. They have provided desktop studies and site investigations; where a good understanding of the local geology, dam and foundation materials, instrumentation, and wider dam safety issues including flooding, internal erosion and seismicity has been required. They have consistently exceeded expectations in terms of technical delivery, programme, safety, and end-client satisfaction.

Yuroke Creek Dam – Detailed Design
A Drainage Strategy for Greenvale West Catchment Development was developed in 2014 and covers areas to the north and west of the Greenvale Reservoir. This strategy is necessary for urban development to ensure the integrated management of urban runoff and to protect the Greenvale Reservoir (drinking water) from potential sources of contamination, as outlined in Melbourne Water’s urban development guidelines. The Yuroke Creek Development Service Scheme (YCDSS) is one of the subdivisions included in this Drainage Strategy. A key component of the YCDSS is a new retarding basin, formed by a 20 m high zoned earthfill embankment. Additional project works include a new 1.2 km-long, 3 m-high diversion bund, a 745 m-long engineered waterway, and remediation of an existing 900 m-long, up to 5 m-high diversion bund.
AECOM were commissioned by Melbourne Water to undertake the detailed design of the YCDDS. Geological Consulting was engaged by AECOM to assist with geological investigations, including geological mapping, surface geophysics, investigative trenches, drilling with associated in-situ testing and instrumentation installation, and laboratory testing. Geological Consulting also assisted with the development of the site’s Engineering Geological Model (EGM).
